FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

About the food

What is Ranges Raw?

Ranges Raw is a raw dog food subscription based in the Macedon Ranges, Victoria. We make single-protein, complete and balanced frozen raw meals in three proteins: venison, kangaroo and goat. Every recipe is formulated by Dr Anna Sutton, Independent Registered Animal Nutritionist (RAnNutri), to AAFCO 2026 All Life Stages profiles, and delivered frozen in 1kg pouches.

What does single protein mean?

Each meal contains meat and organ from one animal species only. A venison meal is venison muscle meat and venison organ, with no other animal protein in the recipe. We run a dedicated facility with a full clean-down between proteins, so each protein stays exactly that.

Are the meals complete and balanced?

Yes. Every recipe is formulated by Dr Anna Sutton, Independent Registered Animal Nutritionist (RAnNutri), to AAFCO 2026 All Life Stages profiles. Each meal is a complete diet on its own, not a mixer or a topper.

What is in the meals?

Diced muscle meat, organ meat, shredded fruit and vegetables, a vitamin and mineral premix and a functional blend. The full ingredient declaration and typical analysis appear on every pouch and on each product page. All meat is ethically sourced.

What are the full ingredients?

Every recipe uses the same ingredients in the same proportions. Only the protein changes. The venison recipe contains: Venison meat (45%), Venison pluck (heart, liver, lung) (40%), Dried coconut, Dicalcium phosphate, Carrot, Pumpkin, Apple, Carrot fibre, Brewer’s yeast, Broccoli, Beetroot, Rose hip powder, Psyllium husk, Hulled hemp seed, Fish oil powder (source of DHA and EPA), Blueberry powder, Betaine, Calcium carbonate, Sunflower oil, Sunflower seed kernels, Salt, vitamin and mineral premix (Vitamins: vitamin E, niacin, calcium pantothenate, thiamine, riboflavin, vitamin A, pyridoxine, cyanocobalamin, folic acid, vitamin D3, vitamin K3 (menadione), biotin; Minerals: iron chelate, zinc sulphate, zinc oxide, manganese chelate, copper amino acid chelate, potassium iodide, selenium; Antioxidant (mixed tocopherols, rosemary extract, citric acid); Carrier: limestone), Kelp meal (Ascophyllum nodosum), Beta-glucans, Postbiotic (Saccharomyces cerevisiae fermentation product), Glucosamine sulphate, Amino acid (taurine), Vitamin (choline chloride), Chondroitin sulphate, Antioxidant (rosemary extract), Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactiplantibacillus plantarum, Enterococcus faecium, Antioxidant (lutein). The kangaroo and goat recipes replace the venison meat and pluck with kangaroo or goat in the same proportions.

What fruit and vegetables are in the meals?

Carrot for beta-carotene, which supports healthy skin and vision, and carrot fibre for firm, well-formed stools. Pumpkin, broccoli and beetroot for plant antioxidants and gentle fibre. Apple and blueberry for naturally occurring antioxidants and vitamin C. A measured amount, because the calories in this bowl come from the meat.

What is in the functional blend?

Every Ranges Raw meal includes a functional blend, so there’s nothing extra to add. Prebiotic, fibre, dental health & joint vitamins and minerals are integrated as part of our recipes. Fish oil powder for DHA and EPA, which support healthy skin, coat and normal joint function. Glucosamine and chondroitin, which support healthy cartilage. Beta glucans, a postbiotic and three live cultures, which support a healthy gut microbiome. Kelp (Ascophyllum nodosum), a brown seaweed studied for its role in slowing plaque and tartar build-up, which supports healthy teeth and gums. Taurine, choline, betaine and lutein, each for a specific normal body function. Rose-Hip Vital®, a rosehip powder naturally rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, which support healthy joints and normal immune function.

What is in the vitamin and mineral premix?

Vitamins: vitamin E, niacin, calcium pantothenate, thiamine, riboflavin, vitamin A, pyridoxine, cyanocobalamin, folic acid, vitamin D3, vitamin K3 (menadione), biotin. Minerals: iron chelate, zinc sulphate, zinc oxide, manganese chelate, copper amino acid chelate, potassium iodide, selenium. Antioxidant: mixed tocopherols, rosemary extract, citric acid. Carrier: limestone.

Is Ranges Raw suitable for puppies?

Yes. Our recipes are formulated to All Life Stages standards, which includes growth. Puppies are fed at a higher rate than adult dogs, so our plan quiz asks your dog’s age and sets the feeding amount accordingly. See the puppy feeding guide

Why do you rotate proteins?

Our Rotation Protocol moves your dog to a different single protein each month. Rotation supports dietary diversity and reduces single-protein overexposure, so no one protein dominates your dog’s diet over time. How the Ranges Raw rotation protocol works

How do I switch my dog to Ranges Raw?

Change over gradually. Introduce Ranges Raw alongside your dog’s current food over about a week, increasing the raw portion each day. Dogs with sensitive stomachs may need longer, and puppies should be transitioned with a little extra patience. If your dog has an existing health condition, speak with your vet before changing their diet. Download the Ranges Raw transition guide (PDF)

Sensitivities & novel proteins

Can Ranges Raw help dogs with food sensitivities?

Many food reactions in dogs are triggered by proteins the dog has eaten repeatedly over a long period. Proteins the immune system has never encountered cannot trigger a reaction. That is why we work with less common proteins: venison, kangaroo and goat. If your dog has never eaten one of these, it is a genuinely new protein for them. Feeding dogs with food sensitivities

What can I feed a dog with food allergies?

Many owners start by looking at protein. Food reactions in dogs are often linked to proteins the dog has eaten repeatedly, such as chicken or beef. Ranges Raw makes single-protein meals in venison, kangaroo and goat, so you can choose a protein your dog has not eaten before. If your dog has a diagnosed allergy or ongoing symptoms, work with your vet on diagnosis and diet.

My dog reacts to chicken and beef. What should I try?

Every Ranges Raw meal contains one animal protein only: venison, kangaroo or goat. None of our meals contain chicken, beef, lamb or pork. Our plan quiz checks your dog’s dietary history and recommends the starting protein they are least likely to have eaten.

Is there a dog food without chicken?

Yes. Ranges Raw contains no chicken, beef, lamb or pork. Each meal is a single protein, venison, kangaroo or goat, made in a dedicated single-protein facility with a full clean-down between proteins.

What is the best protein for a dog with sensitivities?

There is no single best protein, because novelty is individual. The right protein is one your dog has not eaten before. The rotation starts with the least common protein, and we always check your dog’s history first.

Are venison, kangaroo and goat novel proteins?

For many dogs, yes, but not for all. Novelty is individual, not categorical. We verify each dog’s dietary history at onboarding and assign a starting protein your dog is least likely to have eaten before.

How is Ranges Raw different from a prescription hydrolysed diet?

Hydrolysed diets break proteins down into small fragments. Ranges Raw takes a different approach: whole, diced single proteins chosen against your dog’s dietary history, so the protein is one they are unlikely to have met before. If your dog is currently on a prescription diet, speak with your vet before changing it.

What should I feed after an elimination trial?

Choose a single protein your dog has not eaten before, so you always know exactly what is in the bowl. Our plan quiz asks about your dog’s trial results and dietary history, then recommends a starting protein that avoids known triggers. Feeding after an elimination trial

Plans & pricing

How do I know how much to feed my dog?

Our plan quiz sets a daily feeding amount based on your dog’s weight, age and body condition, then matches you to the right plan. A feeding guide is also printed on every pouch.

How much does it cost?

Plans are fixed monthly prices based on your dog’s weight band. They start at $130 per month for a small dog on a Half Plan and are shown in full, GST inclusive, when you complete the quiz. There are no per-delivery surprises: your price is set by your dog’s weight band, not by the protein on rotation.

What is the difference between a Full Plan and a Half Plan?

A Full Plan covers your dog’s complete daily intake. A Half Plan supplies half of that amount, for owners feeding Ranges Raw alongside another food.

How long does each protein run in the rotation?

Each protein runs for one month, then your dog moves to the next protein on their plan. If your dog’s dietary history rules a protein out, the plan rotates between the remaining two.

What is the Starter Box?

The Starter Box is $59 and contains one 1kg pouch of each protein: venison, kangaroo and goat. It is a one-off purchase, not a subscription, and it is the simplest way to see how your dog takes to each protein before you commit to a plan.

Can I pause, skip or cancel my subscription?

Yes. You can pause, skip a delivery or cancel from your account at any time before your next order is packed.

Delivery & storage

Where do you deliver?

We deliver across Victoria. Melbourne metro orders arrive on Thursdays and outer Victorian areas on Fridays. Enter your postcode at checkout to confirm your delivery day.

Do you deliver outside Victoria?

Not yet. We currently deliver within Victoria only.

Can I collect my order?

Yes. If you are local to the Macedon Ranges, Hepburn or Mount Alexander shires, click and collect is available from our facility in Kyneton. Choose click and collect at checkout.

How does frozen delivery work?

Meals leave our facility vacuum-sealed and frozen, and travel in insulated packaging designed to hold them frozen through transit. Move your pouches straight to the freezer when they arrive.

How do I store and defrost the meals?

Keep pouches in the freezer. Move the next pouch to the fridge the night before you need it and let it defrost there, never on the bench. Once defrosted, keep the pouch refrigerated, use it within 48 hours and do not refreeze.

Is raw food safe to handle at home?

Yes, with the same hygiene you would use for raw meat in your own kitchen. Wash hands, bowls, utensils and surfaces after contact, keep pouches frozen until needed and defrost in the fridge. Our meals are pet food: they are labelled Pet Meat, Not For Human Consumption as required by Victorian law.

Sourcing & standards

Where does your meat come from?

All our meat is ethically sourced and arrives at our facility pre-diced from licensed suppliers. Every batch is made in small runs in a dedicated single-protein facility with a full clean-down between proteins. Where your dog’s food comes from

What standards do you operate under?

Our facility is licensed by Safe Food Victoria, our labels are prepared to the AS 5812:2023 Australian standard for pet food, and every recipe is formulated by Dr Anna Sutton, Independent Registered Animal Nutritionist (RAnNutri).
